Join the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra for the sizzling start to its 2012-2013 concert season, as it presents "Bernin' Drums," featuring guest artist Bernie Dresel. Percussive tour de force Bernie Dresel has played with Maynard Ferguson, David Byrne, Gordon Goodwin, Ringo Starr and Chaka Khan, and now he's joining the NJO for what's sure to be an unforgettable performance.
"Bernin' Drums" will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Cornhusker Hotel, 333 South 13th Street in Lincoln, Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. Featured music will be selected from "Strike up the Band," by George Gershwin, arr. Sammy Nestico; "Get in Line," "Samba del Gringo," and "Count Bubba," by Gordon Goodwin, "Love for Sale," by Cole Porter, arr. Pete Myers; "A Foggy Day," by George Gershwin, arr. Peter Bouffard, and " Don Lee," by Charlie Parker, arr. Mark Benson.
Bernie Dresel Bernie Dresel, longtime drummer for the Brian Setzer Orchestra, has performed with a who's who of music legends. Originally driven to a career in music when his grandmother bought him the Fab Four's American debut, "Meet The Beatles," Bernie began drumming at age 4. During his high school years Bernie supplied the backbeat to the wildly popular local band, Starbreaker. After high school Bernie headed to Rochester, NY to the Eastman School of Music where he studied classical percussion. Upon graduating in the spring of 1983 he moved to Los Angeles.
Bernie has done loads of session work and built quite a reputation as a reliable and brilliant musician. He's played with Maynard Ferguson, Talking Head David Byrne, The Rippingtons and Chaka Khan, in addition to doing a lot of session work. Bernie has also lent his considerable talents to television show scores like Dallas, Knots Landing, Deep Space Nine, Suddenly Susan and many cartoons including The Simpsons and Pinky and The Brain, as well as numerous movie scores.
